The city of London didn't exist until the first bridge was built. The Romans built the first wooden crossing here, which was the center of Londinium and it survived for 600 years.
London's new concrete structure was opened by the Queen in 1973, the Tower Bridge. It is now the symbol of London. It was built with a simple design and it lets river traffic go up and down to the center of London. Tower bridge celebrated its 120th anniversary in 2014.
Another important bridge is the Millennium bridge, that it's called "The wobbly Bridge" because of its swaying movement, and it opened in 2000.
The busiest bridge in the city is Blackfriars bridge. The original opened in 1769 and it was replaced a century later with the Victorian bridge we see today.
Irena Sendler
We are studying what are heroes nowdays. They are not people with superpowers, just people with humanity. My favorite hero is Irena Sendler. She was a nurse during the Second World War, she was born in 1910 in Poland and she died in 2008. She led a secret rescue of 2.500 Jewish children from Warsaw Ghetto and those hiding in the Warsaw area, during the Holocaust in the Second World War. She provided them with false identity documents and shelter outside the Ghetto, and saved them from sure death. The German occupiers eventually discovered her activities and she was arrested by the Gestapo, tortured, and sentenced to death, but she managed to evade execution and survive the war. In 1965, Irena was recognised by the State of Israel as Righteous among the Nations. She also earnt the Order of the White Eagle, Poland's highest honor, for her efforts. Today, just a few people know her, but I think she deserves to be remembered.
Once upon a time, in the Middle Age, lived the prince Llywelyn and his little son.
He had a very loyal friend too, a hound called Gelert.
One day, the prince went hunting, and since his wife died of childbirth, Llywelyn left the dog to watch after his baby. When he returned, it was very late. He walked in the room and found a total mess. The baby wasn't in the cradle, and there was blood everywhere, even on Gelert paws and muzzle. The prince thought that he killed his son, so he killed him.
After that, he heard a baby crying, and turned to the left. There was a body of a dead wolf in the corner, and the baby was hidden, safe and sound.
The story end when the prince realizes his mistake. He would never forgive himself for that.
Gelert was buried near the lake, and his story is now remembered.
Politically correctness is a new trend of the United States. It allows you to talk and write without offending anyone. They have even created a dictionary: "The Official Politically Correct Dictionary and Handbook". For example, an ugly person is called "cosmetically different", or a prostitute "sex workers". The aim of this book is to lead people to reflect before talking, and watch what they say, so that they don't offend people. The Politically Correct dictionary also try to deal with life's serious problems, infact it suggest to call a person with AIDS just "person living with AIDS", not "AIDS victim". Despite the book contains good suggestions, it is also full of silliness. For example, according to it, a dog should be called "nonhuman animal companion", a person with glasses "optically challenged" or a plant "botanical companion". Some of them are even more offensive, like "horizontally challenged" for an overweight person, or "hair disadvantaged" for bold people.
My favourite tv series is Teen Wolf.
The protagonist is Scott McCall. This guy got bitten by a werewolf in the first episode and after the bite, he slowly started to become a werewolf himself. Next, he found out that he is a "true alpha". An alpha is the leader of the pack, and a beta becomes an alpha when he\she kills the alpha in charge. But a "true alpha" was born to be an alpha. Scott has a best friend, Stiles. He's my favourite character because he's very smart but yet so funny, he makes everyone laugh with his jokes. Throught the seasons, Scott will have a girlfriend, Allison, and he will find out more about his nature. There will be more villains to defeat and problems to solve. I really love this series because it deals both with supernatural (which I love) and teens problems, so it is just perfect.
